[CASE STUDY] It really enlightens our lives! A case on Illukpitiya community access road



Ilukpitiya is a traditional rural village of Thampalawela GN division, belongs to Madulla Divisional Secretariat (DS) of Monaragala District. The key source of income of the households in Ilukpitiya area is farming. They are mainly cultivating rubber, green gram, black gram, banana, vegetables...etc. In addition to farming some of them are doing carpentry, masonry and casual labour work. Since the farming is seasonal, most of the farmers are engaging in “chena cultivation” (slash and burn).

Ilukpitiya community access road was one of the seriously damaged roads in Tampalawela GN division. Villagers used to hand carry their goods and materials as the road was badly damaged. The villagers were faced difficulties in travelling and transporting on time.
