IFAD Nepal hosted “Multi-stakeholder Consultation Meeting on Migration and Remittances for Development” in Kathmanduon 26 May 2014.The main objective of the meeting was to establish the working modalities and roles of the multi-stakeholder platform on migration and development, which was agreed during December 2013 consultation workshop of Rural Enterprise and Remittances (RER) project. The multistakeholder platform is expected to a) provide an avenue for policy dialogue including the integration of migration in the development agenda at the national and local level; b) forge concrete initiatives in maximizing the gains and minimizing the cost of migrationand c) to coordinate and complement the various interventions of government, civil society and private sector to facilitate the reintegration of migrant workers in the Nepali society. The members of the platform include representatives from the government agencies, UN agencies, bilateral organizations, INGOs and NGOs working on migration and remittances.
The project’s final design mission is in September 2014 and will be implemented in 2015. For more information about the project, please see the initial design main report Link
