NB. This meeting was scheduled for November 2nd and 3rd, but has been rescheduled for December due to the flooding in Bangkok. The dates for December are not yet confirmed.
The regional grant-funded FinPower Programme (Programme for Accelerating the Financial Empowerment of Poor Rural Communities in Asia and the Pacific through Rural Finance Innovations), is being implemented by the Asia-Pacific Rural and Agricultural Credit Association (APRACA) since January 2007. The Programme was recently supervised and one recommendation of the supervision mission was to organize a forum-consultation on rural financial innovations and emerging issues to share lessons learned and innovative financing mechanisms to deal with emerging issues in the region. APRACA in collaboration with IFAD will organize this Forum in Bangkok on November 2-3.
A well-known expert and leading authority on rural finance, Dr. Geetha Nagarajan, will participate in the regional forum-consultation and present a paper on rural financial emerging lessons, innovations and opportunities. The Forum will also give us the opportunity to gather ideas for future collaboration with APRACA. Participants of the Forum will include senior officials of APRACA member institutions such as central banks, agricultural banks, commercial banks and MFIs from 23 countries of the region.
