IFAD Asia and Pacific Workshop 2015
Co-hosted by the Government of the Republic of Indonesia and IFAD
Supported by the Government of the Republic of Korea
Asia and the Pacific is a region in transition: Rural-urban migration, population growth, rising food prices and the increasingly visible impact of climate change are putting pressure on rural areas. As the only international financing institution that focuses on the rural development, the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) is partnering with the region’s governments to turn these challenges into opportunities.
The annual Asia and Pacific Workshop brings together leaders from governments, IFAD-supported projects, private sector and development partners. As part of the IFAD Asia Learning Series, the regional workshop provides a unique platform for the South-South exchange. It enhances scaling up of good practices and strengthens the rural development network. The 2015 workshop will focus on Innovation for Rural Transformation. Innovation is a driving force of economic growth and social progress – and it is crucial to address the ever growing rural development challenges.
To commemorate the opening of IFAD’s sub-regional hub for Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and the Pacific, the workshop will take place in Bali, Indonesia. Bali is Indonesia’s innovation hub and home to many rural development pilot initiatives and social entrepreneurs. It will provide an inspiring context for conference participants.
The Asia Pacific Workshop is preceded by a Pacific Roundtable on 26 October. This Roundtable will bring together stakeholders from the region to consult and discuss IFAD’s sub-regional partnership approach and to map out strategic areas of engagement. It opens to all interested participants.
