RMLSP Promotes Improved Methods of Natural Hatching in Rural Areas

Rural Microfinance and Livestock Support Program (RMLSP) promotes improved methods of natural hatching through its Backyard Poultry Project in Balkh and Jawzjan provinces.

Women in rural Afghanistan have been using traditional methods of hatching which are not scientific and effective. The project organized women in village producers groups and trained them on natural hatching, coop management and rearing of chicks through females farmers field schools (FFFS) approach. The project also designed and introduced various types of chicken coops. As a result, the percentage of hatching increased from 65% to 95% and positive changes took place in the knowledge, skills and attitude of project beneficiaries and non –beneficiaries.
