Afghanistan – Success Story of Mr. Malang, A Livestock Holder:

Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation & Livestock (MAIL) through SNaPP2 program, funded by IFAD has brought positive changes in lives of poor rural livestock holders. For instance, Mr. Malang, one of the beneficiaries, who lives in Gajj village of Kaama District, narrates his own success story as bellow:

I have chosen livestock to reduce poverty and solve my economic problems but due to lack of professionalism, I couldn’t get enough income. Before the SNaPP2 targeted our village, my livestock product was of low quantity & quality but after I received training on livestock, it was very useful to all farmers including myself.

I have 3 cows and 2 calves. I deliver 19 liter milk to Milk Collection Center daily which has been established with support of SNaPP2 program nearby my village. This helped me to earn 475 Afghanis (6.98$) per day and my weekly income is now 3325 Afghanis (48.89$).

SNapp2 program practically trained us on urea treatment and we received urea treatment tools. My cow’s milk production period is 10 months but my 9 months income is 119700 Afghanis (1760.29$) which is the best income for my family.

I had a cow which produced 2 liter milk per day but when I started to feed it with urea treatment, milk production increased up to 50% in 25 days and now milk production is 6 liters daily. Mr. Malang said.

At the end I thank SNaPP2 program and wish to grow my livestock business more in the near future.
