IFAD's Associate Vice-President in Nepal Visit

News: IFAD's Associate Vice-President in Nepal Visit

The IFAD's Associate Vice-President Mr. Alvaro Lario has visited the High Value Agriculture Project (HVAP) area on 8 and 9 October 2018. A small meeting was organized in the meeting hall of HVAP on 8 October 2018, HVAP results and learning were shared. At the same time, the Adaptation for Small Holders in Hilly Areas (ASHA) Project also shared the project achievements in the meeting.

Mr. Alvaro along with Mr. Basu Arya, CPO/IFAD-Nepal visited the HVAP project area and interacted with project beneficiary farmers, agribusinesses, private service providers, during the visit. Mr. Alvaro spent two days in the project communities and interacted with communities who are scaling up tomato, turmeric and vegetable production. He also observed the regional vegetable and fruit wholesale market in Birendranagar, Surkhet where the traders shared their experience in vegetable and fruit marketing in the region.

Mr. Alvaro observed the turmeric and ginger processing units in the project area.  The ginger processing unit run by the Organic Mountain Flavor Pvt. Ltd. has been exporting the dry slice organic ginger to the European Market since 2013. The HVAP has co-invested US$72000 as a matching grant to establish and run the ginger processing unit.
