Sustainable LGED Subproject achieved National Cooperative Award - 2014

 

LGED - implemented Agrani Command Area Development (CAD) WMCA Ltd, Sadar upazila of Chapai Nawabganj district has been adjudged the best Cooperative Society to achieve the National Cooperative Award, 2014 in agriculture based / comprehensive village development category. Honorable Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina, chief guest, distributed the award in a program arranged to commemorate the 45th National Cooperative Day in Osmani Smrity Milonayoton, Dhaka on 5 November, 2016. Enamul Haque, Secretary, Agrani Water Management Cooperative Association Ltd. has received the award. The award has been conferred in recognition of outstanding contribution for Irrigation-based agriculture development in the subproject area as well as for improving livelihood of the poor farmer and non-farmer members of Agrani CAD Water Management Cooperative Association. In Agrani, an age-old irrigation scheme, the irrigation practice to enhance agricultural yield has efficiently improved doing away with the old fashioned know-how operated until the subproject was implemented.

 

AgraniCAD Subproject has been implemented under ABD-IFAD-GoN assisted Small Scale Water Resources Development Sector Project of LGED in 1999 with a view to provide improved agricultural benefit ensuring availability of water for irrigation through establishing better irrigation facilities which was further enhanced by Performance Enhancement support from ADB-IFAD funded PSSWRS Project currently under implementation. Infrastructure constructed through the Project included were RCC 3,120m main canal, RCC 600m branch canal, Box Culvert, siphon, aqueduct etc costing Tk. 1,75,00,000.00 and furthermore 2,700m branch canal worth Tk. 73,11,000.00. The irrigation facility covered under irrigation 502 hectare land during Rabi and Boro crop and provided supplementary irrigation to Aman crop in the same area.  The LGED – constructed irrigation infrastructures supported by efficient and effective water utilization, water security and above all, water governance has established the subproject area as surplus in food production. LGED, furthermore has been providing with necessary technical and financial support to Agrani subproject and its WMCA to make it achievement sustainable.  Under the leadership of an outstandingly efficient Managing Committee members it has been able to create extensive enthusiasm among the member segment that continues to adopt and practice cutting-age technology developed in the agricultural arena which not only enhanced agricultural yield and income but created social awareness and livelihood improvement in the area. The award giving ceremony was attended, among other high officials of the Ministry and the Department, by Mr. Mosharraf Hossain, MP, Minister and Mr. Moshiur Rahman Ranga, MP, State Minister for Rural Development and Cooperatives as special guests. Mr. Sheikh Mohd. Nurul Islam, Project Director, PSSWRSP, LGED has congratulated the Agrani Leader for his outstanding performance that consequently led to triumph the Award.

                         

Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is handing over the credential of the Best Award to Mr. Enamul Haque, Secretary, Agrani WMCA Ltd. Sadar, Chapai Nawabganj.
