Visit Report of the Project Director, PSSWRS Project in the Sub-projects of Chuadanga District.
Project Director, Participatory Small Scale Water Resource Development Project (PSSWRSP), LGED Sheikh Mohd. Nurul Islam visited Nauda-Durgapur-Maddhamath Subproject, (SP-45212) under Alamadanga Upazila and Fakirkhali Khal Sub-project (SP no- 45201)under Damurhuda Upazilain Chuadanga District on July 07, 2017. Executive Engineer, LGED Chuadanga, Upazila Engineer, Alamdanga, Assistant Engineer, Assistant Water Resource Engineer and concerned Sub Assistant Engineer, WMCA Chairman, Secretary, WMCA members and Contractor Representative were present during the visit. The PD visited ongoing construction works of both the subprojects and instructed the Site Manager to complete the remaining work according to design and specification.
Nauda-Durgapur Maddhamath sub-project consists of a 1 vent (1.5m × 1.8m) regulator having catchment area of 450 hectors and benefited area is 380 hectors. Total household and benefited household in the subproject area are 621 and 353 respectively. The Nauda-Durgapur Maddhamath WMCA comprised of 247 members of which 173 are male and 73 are female. The WMCA members informed that they have started getting benefit of the sub-project. They have prepared their agricultural plan and are now thinking of growing 3 crops in a cropping season. The WMCA has started micro credit operation for the poor members who are struggling with their livelihood. They are also thinking about planting various types of trees in the catchment area. They have started fish culture in the subproject area. The WMCA members gave loan to 18 members to culture fish. They leased in two ponds, culture fish and sell tickets to anglers. About 30-40 interested anglers from Chuadanga district and surrounding areas buy tickets for catching fish every weekend. They made a good profit out of it and deposited 20,000 taka to O&M fund. The PD advised them to go for growing Sun-flower in some areas of the subproject
The Fakirkhali Khal sub-project, on the other hand, is having a 2 vent (1.5m × 1.8m) regulator covering a total area of 980 hectors and benefited area of 675 hectors. Total household of the subproject is 720 and total benefited household is 390. The Fakirkhali Khal WMCA comprised of 270 members of which 153 are male and 117 are female. The WMCA plans to start micro credit program soon and they have also shown interest to make their project an example to others. The PD has assured them of all possible assistance from his part to build a better institution whenever needed.
