Wrap-up meeting of Climate Resilient Community Development (CRCD) Project Design Mission Held: IFAD's Another Intervention in Northern Bangladesh

International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) has been designing a second project for northern region of Bangladesh to reduce poverty and support small producers in a sustainable manner under a pipeline of USD 129 millions allocated for the country. The wrap-up meeting of the design mission of the project named ‘Climate Resilient Community Development (CRCD)’ project was held at Economic Relations Division in Dhaka on 29 March 2017. A H Dewan Alamgir presented the Aide Memoire at the meeting who led the mission. Additional Secretary (Nordic and Coordination Wing) of ERD chaired the meeting. Among others IFAD portfolio Advisor Nigel Brett and IFAD Country Program Officer Sherina Tabassum were present on the occasion. CRCD will work mainly in three areas: (i) Construction of climate resilient rural roads and community shelters (ii) Enhancing community empowerment and sustainable livelihoods through off-farm employment opportunities; and (iii) Climate change preparedness research and community-based flood information system. Local Government Engineering Department (LGED) will implement the project which is designed to cover 25 Upazilas of six districts. Bangladesh University of Science and Technology (BUET) and Department of Disaster Management (DDM) will provide technical support in climate change preparedness research and developing a community-based flood information system.
